The Beginning..

Emma and I decided that we needed a holiday and so, we booked one. At quite short notice for little Emma too.. you see, she is very much a planner, so booking then going on a holiday with only a few weeks prep is a major thing for my lady and I must say, she handled it all so very well.. heck, we didn't even pack until the night before! No pre-pack, no nothing! Impressed, I was! Is this a new leaf she is turning over or perhaps she has been replaced with an alien! Personally I think neither, it was just a slight lapse in judgement. All in all it turned out wickedly, nothing was forgotten.. much fun was had. My ankle slowed us down some, but I am very good at just swimming on.. after-all, what fun would a holiday be if you just copped out and did nothing? What would be the point? Holidays are a break from the reality of mundane and we all need that.

So let the story of NYCBOS2013 begin..

May 1st, we were up early and out of the house in a calm fashion, Nemo was left and Emma's mum would be by a few hours later to take him on his very own little holiday to his hotel to hang with the other doggy guests. The train ride was pretty basic, no funny business there.. Copenhagen airport was hustling and bustling as usual, we checked in and headed through security where Emma held us up with the pat down! I mean really! Gosh Emma, stop looking like you're a smuggler! Then she held us up at the bag scanning section when she had forgotten to remove her PocketMonkey from her wallet! The security people were perplexed on how to handle such a dangerous tool, that they even ruined her wallet a little trying to remove it, before giving up and asking Emma to remove it. They inspected it, gave it back and we were free to go and roam the airport. The airport really isn't that fun to roam in.

Eventually it was time to board, and Emma was up to her tricks again! Gosh Emma! Holding us up at every turn! When they scanned her ticket, it beeped and freaked out! ALERT! ALERT! She has no luggage! Someone came and sorted things. I think the mistake happened coz we had checked in online with 1 piece of luggage under Emma's name and when we had to drop our bags off the lady at the counter put the bag under my name instead and so the system freaked out. Not our fault, but BA's fault.. that lady was an idiot.

Soon enough we were on the plane and in the sky, food was served and we were pleasantly surprised at the wraps that were being served..
Not all plane food is bad. I personally quite enjoy the surprise of plane food, it is something I actually look forward to. I have had some really dodgy meals in my time, as well as some quite delicious ones. The first flight in my opinion doesn't really need a meal, but it is a good way to pass the time. It was quite a quick trip to London, Heathrow airport and pretty pain-free considering we didn't get the express passes that we usually get with the short stop between flights. We got through security reasonably well.. this time it was me who looked like a smuggler! I had to take my shoes off and got hand scanned. I wasn't looking forward to having to put on my shoes again after having to take them off.. but the ankle played nice. We basically got off one plane and as we arrived to the gate for the next it was time to board the next. The long settling in flight, we opted for the pair seats at the back, it was nice to not have to share the space with someone.. coz you never know what type of person you will get, often you get an ass. The downfall of being at the back of the plane was it was bumpy. Also, being last off means you are last in the line at customs, that too is kinda pooey.

This is where I must applaud the attendant we got for this flight, she was an absolute delight! She was fun and upbeat, actually told people when food was being served that seats cannot be reclined. Now we all remember what happened last time. [if you don't, here is the refresher.. or you know.. if you just wanna re-live it] She handed out double drinks right off the bat, not that I was drinking anything harder than fizz and water. The flight wasn't too bad at all and seemed to breeze by quite swiftly. The meal wasn't too bad either, butter chicken.. it had been a while.

We landed, we got off the plane and got to stand in a HUGE line that seemed to take forever. It took us 2 hours from when we exited the plane to when we exited the airport. To me, I think that is too long but hey, shit happens.. right?

We arrived at the hotel, freshened up and scooted out to make it to FAO Schwarz to check out the display for the 30 year anniversary of Fraggle Rock! Coz let's face it, Fraggle Rock is the shizz! However, once we arrived we were a little disappointed that the display was so.. small and a little lacking. There was definitely some funk to it but I guess we just expected more. I mean, heck, even Angry Birds got a bigger display. What's up with that?!

We didn't end up buying any Fraggles but Emma did buy a very awesome t-shirt so not all was a loss.. and you know.. we got to have a look around the store too and check out the Lego displays..

Here's a few snaps from our walk around the Central Park.. I just love this place.

It is actually quite peaceful, you don't hear all that city noise. And there's squirrels! Who doesn't love those!?

It was dinner time so we made our way to check out a burger joint, you know.. making sure that we saw nothing on the trek to said burger joint. The line was out the door! There was nowhere to sit to enjoy our burgers so once we got our foodage we headed off to Times Square and did a spot of people watching while scoffing down the goodness of Shake Shack burgers.. and it was then that I discovered just why the line was out the door. Freaken deliciousness! To damn die for! Best veg burger EVER too! The shakes were pretty freaken fab too! I nomed up a chocolate one of those!

We made our way back to the hotel, it had been a long ass day. Some sleep was definitely needed and well deserved. Travel days can be so long.. especially when you add time changes to the mix!
