We thought we didn't have enough with nature so we headed into Prospect Park. Partly coz it was on our way to somewhere else, partly coz areas of it have free wifi and also partly coz we just wanted to have a walk around. We walked around and around and when we came across some free wifi and a place to sit and have a rest, we took the chance for that rest. My ankle was holding up but it was starting to feel a little hard done by. We sat in silence, playing with photos.. looking up now and then to witness the goings on around us. I saw a guy in the distance burning papers in a large bin and totally had a CSI scenario running through my head. I saw a kite stuck in a tree and wondered if there was some distraught kid somewhere so sad about it.. when in reality it was probably an adult who was the saddest about it. It was a glorious, bright, beautiful, sunny kind of day. I couldn't have asked for more.. actually I could have asked for a little shade, coz as it turned out.. I got a little burnt. Always the way with me these day.. Emma, however.. nothing!
Don't you just love the park art?! Perhaps it is just the duck lover in me, that draws me to this wonderful piece of art? |
Soon enough as we were sitting there in peace, a bunch of chatty people came and sat at our table and I sat there as long as I could listening to them talk dribble with their strong accents. Sometimes it is just nice to listen to conversations, no matter what they are about.. I do prefer the lighter toned ones tho. We were started to get hungry, which wasn't helped by the fact that the table guests were munching away so we left and proceeded to go to the planned destination of dub pies. NZ style pies in NYC! Can anyone say yes please! and I did, I partook in a mince and cheese while Emma had the creamy veg and to be frank they were both damn good. I also grabbed a Buzz bar, love them! Simple goodness! As well as a flat white, which was kinda meh if I am to be honest, it was luke warm at best.. even a baby wouldn't have burnt their mouth on it. Sad really but I guess you can't win them all.. right? Anyways, here is some food porn..
As we departed, we grabbed a sausage roll and a spinach and feta roll.. along with a small mixed bag of NZ candy! Jet planes! it had jet planes.. I could not resist! Yet, as of right now I still have not eaten them! WTF is that about, right?! I guess I don't want them to be gone? Who knows!
We made our way over to the Staten Island Ferry for our ride out and back so we could check out the view.. which was pretty stellar..
While waiting for the ferry to arrive, we happened to stand behind/to the side of a large man who was reading a gun magazine and circling the things that he wanted. Guns are not my cup of tea and it did not re-assure me before getting on to a vessel I couldn't escape from unless I wanted to drown. It was a nice ride out and back all the same, we munched on the earlier purchased doughnuts.. I attempted to spill strawberry jam all over myself. Hey, it's what I do! Who's for more doughnut food porn?!
Back to the hotel we headed for a little rest before requiring dinner.. it was nice to be able to put my feet up. Ankle was looking a little puffy and sore again, but considering the amount of time on my feet, it held up very well indeed. After resting up, we headed out to grab a dumpling dinner! They were very noms! It was a bit of a walk, but that was ok.. coz it is quite nice to be out and about in the darkness of NYC.. it was about a 30min walk to get dinner and instead of eating in we decided to take our dumplings and go. Now I know, the dumplings would have been so much nicer to eat right away but the noise really wasn't what I was after.. I don't like having to yell so my table partner can hear me and vice versa. So we headed off with our delicious dumplings and marched our way back to the room and made a make shift table out of a chair and munched away in nice, quiet surroundings.
That makes me a happy camper.. and you have to remember I had been up since 3:30am! Exhausted, I nodded off around 10:30pm. Another wonderfully beautiful day in NYC.
