We were up early this lovely Thursday morning, we had had some lovely weather over the past few days and we hoped Vancouver Islands weather gods were going to show us the same kind of treatment. Off we toddled to meet Jason, before heading to catch the bus.. the wait was long, for the bus that is. Once we got to the ferry terminal, we had our tickets spat at us. Yes, I do mean spat when I say spat.. the machine was having a bad day obviously and spat out the tickets, each one ended up on the floor. I guess machines have feelings too?
The wait for the ferry wasn't long and soon enough we were on the seas..
90ish minutes later we were on dry land again, picking up the rental car and heading off into the great outdoors of Vancouver Island. Destination: The Yurt! However, first stop.. Morningstar Farm..
Where we got to see some seriously bad puns.. The most adorable bubbamoo! Who just totally adored getting petted. Before we left, Emma and Jason just had to pose in a stick ya face in here board! Actually, I forced them.. because, memories!
But most importantly.. we got to try a bunch of cheeses and some berry wines.
I had never had berry wine before and it was quite nice. We picked up a bottle of the Blueberry for the parentals and a bottle of the blackberry for us to consume later that evening in the yurt.. with some cheeses that we also picked up from there. They had some seriously good cheeses, it made it difficult to choose.
Back on the road, we made our way bumpily and twisty and turny all the way to the yurt. It actually reminded me a lot of New Zealand. Bad roads and great scenery! After a few hours driving, there was some hunger starting to brew.. when I spied a sign for a cafe! Score! We pulled in, ordered a burger.. a really great burger and milkshake. Took in some of the scenery, and even watched a few people come down on the zipline. The mountain was covered up by a lot of fog and after Emma spoke to one of the dudes there, he was saying that it was quite unusual.
With a full belleh, we headed off again towards the yurt.. which had the 'driveway' from hell. But, so damn worth it.
Dropped our stuff off and headed out to Tofino. We walked around the town before calling into a little place for a brew and some oysters. Emma had never had one, so we thought a little town just by the ocean would be a perfect place for her to give it a go. And give it a go she did and didn't hate it.. they were prepared really well tho and I could have eaten a dozen of them easily.
Back into the car we got and yurt bound, but first stopping by Jigger's for some fnc, they were supposed to have the best and not expensive fnc around.. I could have happily never put that food in my mouth. Anyways, once at the yurt we were not prepared for the cold. I was in shorts and a tee with no long pants or long shirt, I didn't even bring a single long sleeved item with me on this trip, not even a jacket. We swiftly put on the gas heater.. thank goodness we were glamping and not camping! Tucked into some wine, cheese and crackers while chatting the night away listening to the ocean roaring next to us. Life is pretty darn good, and we were no longer cold.
After a semi restful night on the futon, we enjoyed some more time in the yurt and the surrounding area, taking a little trek, getting sand in my shoes and up onto some rocks..
