Pedal Power!

Turned out that our first actual day in Vancouver to go and explore the city was a public holiday! Yep, well planned! But, it seemed as though a public holiday didn't really mean much more than there were more people about so it wasn't so bad. We had decided that the first order of business was to hire bikes for the day so we set off nice and early to do just that. We got our bikes from Spokes and set off for a ride.. roughly this ride..
A: Spoke Bike Rental
B: Granville Island
C: Museum of Anthropology
D. Rain or Shine Ice Cream
 ..around 40km in total.

We donned helmets and got helmet hair and peddled around.. nearly crashing a few times.. into each other, other people and people walking. It was kind of a busy track but it was loads of fun. The sea breeze in my... ha..err helmet, stopping here and there to take in a few sights and snap a few photos.

Seaside or Quebec?
You choose!
We chose... Seaside.
It seemed like the smarter choice..

Our first rest stop came when we hit Granville Island, we walked around the market place.. had a smoothie, donut and some champagne grapes before heading over to the tap room to try some brews and poutine. Thanks, Kathryn & Joe! It seemed only right that a very Canadian thing like poutine should be consumed on their dime as they so kindly sent us some $$.. my first Canadian $$! Canadian beer and cuisine on the Canadians.. well not actually ON them, coz that would be a tad unhygienic.. to say the least, right?! Anyways, the beers weren't the greatest, they fell a little flat, which turned out to be quite the common theme with beer in Vancouver. There was also a lack of porters and stouts.. something about them not being summer beers. I call bullshit on that to be honest. I've clearly been spoilt when it comes to beer. Thanks, Mikkeller.

Back on the bikes, we continued on our way..
It was some hard yakka on this uphill of an area to get to the Museum of Anthropology but it was well worth it, luckily we had plenty of water and some champagne grapes to suck on down in the little pit stops. We enjoyed our time wandering around the museum, it was nice to give our bums a break!

Once we were done with the museum, we were back in the sun and on the bikes, heading towards a well deserved ice cream! So well deserved in fact, that no photos were even attempted, we just got stuck straight into them and they were delicious.. or well, I had a sorbet and Emma had an ice cream but it was all cold and all delicious and gave us just the right amount of umpf to get back to the hotel.. or well the bike shop and then walk to the hotel where we promptly fell asleep like the nannas that we are!  Not surprising really, long flight, short sleep then long activity filled day! I'm not ashamed to have fallen asleep at all!

So I shall leave you with these awesome photos taken from our balcony.. look left, look right! Look out!
