We have had little Mikkel home for nearly 2 weeks now, and finding time to do anything but play with him, feed him, potty him, walk him, occupy him, cuddle him, and watch him sleep blissfully is incredibly hard but so so worth it. Even with the little surprises he leaves.
The first few night, he woke up and cried a few times but a quick touch let him know he wasn't alone and off back to sleep he went. It wasn't long until he was sleeping through the night and for the most part, he hasn't done potty time inside at night. Apart from a couple of exceptions where his ass was on fire from the de-worming stuff and he was trying to get back into being 'regular'. Accidents are bound to happen with a new puppy but for the most part he does have very good control, just the wrong way around! He will get it right eventually and in the meantime, I have to keep a cool head and just use my 'Piss Off' spray and smile.
Emma had a slightly worse potty experience with him in the form of him pooping in her hand, he just doesn't have an off button once he starts peeing or pooing. So if you move him, there will be casualties! Yep, we totally signed up for this!
He is a very social little guy, making conversations with everyone we meet. There is no sneaking past anyone, he wants to meet them all.. in fact, just this morning after dropping Emma off at the station, we walked past a shop window and he saw very still people inside. He stopped..
..stared at them.. cocked his head, barked a little as if to say.. "play with me!" much like in this video [link to video] and then proceeded to run head first into the glass. Sadly, I did not catch that on camera. It's these moments that I wish I had a camera in my eye! He is a funny little guy, indeed.
So over the past few weeks he has met many new people and many new dogs, his first meeting with Hjulle, was a little frightening for him to start with but he slowly warmed up, by the next visit, he was chasing Hjulle to get him to play. Hjulle isn't so sure how to play with something so small right now, being that he has always had German shepherds to frolic with.
He has also met a little black schnauzer on his daily walks to the park for some off leash time, he was scared of her to start with but again, next meet, he was all up in there! Then there are a few other dogs around the place but the most important meeting was with Leia, a Finnish lapphund, who belongs to a long time friend of Emma's. They met last night and hit it off smashingly! There was no being scared, Mikkel was all up in there having a blast with his new buddy! It was delightful and then as soon as he got home.. he jumped in to bed and zonked with his fox.. [link to photo]. I think they are going to be best of friends, causing strife at every turn! Just fantastic!
We have got him a wonderful bowtie, collar, and leash set. The set came with 3 collars so as he grows, we can switch them out. Not overly sure he will ever get into the biggest one, but that doesn't matter coz bowties are cool! How dapper does our little guy look?! It's a little on the big side for now, but it will be perfect when he is a little bigger.
Also, here is the [link] to Emma's insta photo.. look at that face?!
All in all I think Mikkel is settling into life with us.. I like to think we are giving him a good life and I think he is going to give us a good life too.. so on that note, I shall leave you with a few adorable life photos of our darling boy.. [Mikkel's Life!]
In other news, I have successfully taught him to 'sit'. He listens and does it every time I say it now. He is a very good boy. If only I could get him to understand that 'come' means to come to me rather than to cock ones head and stare blankly.. but then again he is only 11 weeks old and we can only tackle one command a week.. right?!
Don't forget you can catch more regular photo's and video's on mine and Emma's instagram account.. Emma's account.. [link] and my account.. [link]
And here is the one where he played with the candy ball.. [link]
disclaimer: this was typed with Mikkel on the desk in front of me attempting to eat my fingers in-between power-naps.
